The Pre-harvest Testing of aquaculture products is mandatory for export to EU countries. MPEDA has set up 19 (nineteen) ELISA Screening Laboratories at various centers (as shown below) in the maritime states of India to conduct the pre-harvest testing/screening of the aquaculture products (shrimp/fish) for the presence of antibiotics residues like Chloramphenicol & Nitrofuran metabolites before the produce is harvested. These Elisa Laboratories are equipped with fully automated ELISA Readers and other required accessory equipments.

Under the PHT programme, the sample screened ELISA negative(screen negative) and/or confirmed negative by LC MSMS test is certified as compliant, ie; the sample does not contain the residue of the antibiotics tested.
The samples tested as ELISA positive (screen positive) are forwarded to the MPEDA Quality Control Laboratories (Kochi/Bhimavaram/Nellore) for confirmatory test by LC-MSMS. If the sample is found positive(non-compliant), based on the confirmatory test, the test certificate shall contain the information as non-compliant, ie; the sample contains residue(s) of the antibiotics tested, as per the specified limit(s).
